Shingles is a kind of skin rash. It is caused by the chicken pox virus called herpes varicella-zoster. After chicken pox, the virus lives inactively in the nervous system. Certain factors reactivate this virus and cause Shingles. Anyone who has suffered from chicken pox, is at the risk of getting shingles. It is contagious. It can spread to those people who have not had chicken pox. They end up suffering from chicken pox. The contagious stage is before the crust forms. This can affect both men and women.

The main cause of shingles is the reactivation of the virus. The virus is no longer dormant and travels to a nerve. This causes rashes on the skin wherever the nerve is or a part of that area. This crusting is a healing sign. Shingles have a distinctive appearance. If not treated, it can cause facial paralysis in some extreme cases.

2. Mint Leaves: Crush the mint leaves and make a paste, apply this. It gives a soothing cooling relief.

5. Pear: Eat pears or drink pear juice. Pear is said to be an effective home remedy.

It is important to build up your immunity. Remain stress free and indulge in relaxing activities. Read a good book and listen to soothing music. Avoid chocolates and nuts and avoid food with high salt content. Do not scratch. Do not cover up the affected area, as it can prevent healing of the blisters. Eat lots of fruits and avoid junk food. Eat antioxidant rich diet. Drink loads of water to flush out the toxins from the body.
